i notice that desserts have expiry dates, especially in kl. which is a bit funny to me because i thought that only happens in fashion. a couple of years ago there were these cute cupcakes, and when people got sick of them red velvet cakes came to the rescue. after red velvet, frozen yogurt TF was introduced and got people go all crazy over it. and now.....there's macaroons.
when i first heard about macaroons, i was in melbourne. got curious and bought my first macaroons from Laurent. i remember it tasted too sweet for my liking and it literally made me not want to eat them anymore. then months later we were given free macaroons (below) by this person at this french cafe (in melbs as well) that i cant recall the name of. i was quite reluctant to eat just because i know it's gonna taste as sweet. true enough. in the end i had to force myself to swallow.
when i came back to mesia last year, i remember this confectionary(?) wasnt trending, yet. but soon, it became the talk of the town. i personally had no heart to ever eat them again, until..... a few weeks ago. KT talked about it and i accidentally had a crave for it. literally. haha. went crazy looking for 'em. just ask MM. after two weeks, i discovered one shop that sells them. it's from Babycakes Sweet Shoppe.
four words: too sweet & too crunchy
from what i gather, macaroons are supposed to be chewy and not too sweet. so that was a disappointment.
then, this cafe 'found' me on twitter. so i followed it back and guess what, they sell macs! so i dragged MM and off we go to Tmn. Melawati. the newly opened cafe is called Bread Ties. if you look at their macs, you'd laugh (not in a bad way) because the shapes are inconsistent and cute! some are big and some small and one of them looked like what eh mok? hahaha. nah, proof.
tasted better than babycakes'. and get this, they're CHEAP.
get the green ones. yums.
then KT and me discovered more macaroons in Harrods, KLCC. awesome. just awesome because i dont have to look so far anymore. 6 pieces cost rm19.10 (plus tax). i would say Harrods macaroons are somewhat near the real ones. not that their's arent real. i meant the texture and taste are close to the ones from Paris. not too sweet but still have some air in it. half crunchy and half chewy. nevertheless, i love them all the same.
these are the second best.
okay, one last review on macaroons and im done. about two weeks ago i ordered some macs from Paris (thanks KT and KT's friend) and got them last friday. i was (and still!) excited that i didnt want to eat them. i just stared at these lovely, yummy, healthy looking macaroons. i could go on awe-ing and staring for days but KT stopped me short. hehe. so i tried one and POOF! im in heaven. hallelujah. LOL. the sweetness, the density and the satisfaction after eating them are priceless.
drools.
there. i am DONE! phew.
